IWD 2023: Talking to Talmix Associate, Yuning Liu

At Talmix, to celebrate International Women's Day 2023, we're highlighting both the inspirational women who make up our global talent network, and the incredible women who make up our own team around the world.

Today, we talk to Talmix Customer Success Associate Yuning Liu about her career so far, and what advice she would give to provide a more gender-equal workplace.

1. What does International Women’s Day mean for you?
It’s a symbolic day where women and girls all around the world are celebrated. It is intended to bring extra attention to contemporary gender inequality, including cultural misogyny, violence and abuse against women and pay gaps at the workplace. It is also designated to recognise accomplishments and contributions of female figures in our society.

2. What is the biggest challenge you had to face in your career so far?
Making the transition from a student to a young professional and going through the ‘first-times’ in everything – first time writing a report, first time leading a team, first time giving a presentation, first time conducting a screening call, first time writing a difficult email etc. Challenge lies in dealing with the uncertainty and still going forward. Luckily, I have always felt well taken care of and have never experienced gender inequality at my workplace - though this is not the same experience for many women around the world.

3. What piece of advice would you give to build more gender equal workplaces?
Recruit more women and promote more women to more senior positions. In my opinion, given the same level of capability, women often seem to come across as less confident, whereas they just needed to be given the opportunity.

4. What do you enjoy about your role here at Talmix?
We are very close team and everyone is approachable. Lots of fun conversations float around the office and there is always a relaxed atmosphere even when the workload is heavy. Days go by quickly and I always feel well supported.

5. If you could have dinner with one inspirational woman, dead or alive, who would they be and why?
Amal Clooney!! Would love to meet her and hear her talk about how she prepared and handled the difficult negotiations in many of her human right lawsuit cases. Would also love to hear about what inspired her to pursue this career and how she maintains the drive.
