At Talmix, to celebrate International Women's Day 2023, we're highlighting both the inspirational women who make up our global talent network, and the incredible women who make up our own team around the world.
Today, we talk to Talmix Customer Success Associate Kerry Jones about overcoming career challenges, and her ideal dinner guest.
1. What does International Women’s Day mean for you?
It's a celebration of how far we’ve come to build a gender equal society and a reminder that our work is not yet done!
2. What is the biggest challenge you had to face in your career so far?
I began my career working in hospitality establishments – managing a café restaurant & shop through the global pandemic was a particular challenge... mitigating disruption and recovering lost revenues, and another restaurant suffering from staffing and supply chain challenges. After this I decided to make a career change, and employ my leadership and communications skills in a Customer Success role!
3. What piece of advice would you give to build more gender equal workplaces?
Everything is about balance - fix the basics, like concentrating on diversity during the recruitment process, offer supportive employee benefits and work to building an inclusive workplace culture.
4. What do you enjoy about your role here at Talmix?
I thoroughly enjoy team collaboration – it's a pleasure to be working with intelligent, forward-thinking and like-minded individuals.
5. If you could have dinner with one inspirational woman, dead or alive, who would they be and why?
I am a classicist at heart so I will pick Livia Augusta (the wife of Roman Emperor Augustus... who I would argue had more power than he did!) Roman women’s role / impact on Roman society is an interesting study. We always tend to look at ancient history through the lens of the oppressed - it's time to take a revisionist look and celebrate the powerful women who changed the world. Not all women in history are 'behind the scenes' - you could argue that Livia was running the show!
