Background & Objectives
A proposal to a government to bridge between the country and Silicon Valley through its existing relationship as a limited partner in esteem VC funds via the sovereign wealth fund positions.
The idea I am researching is that while the UAE government has been pushing the entrepreneurship wheel, it has only been within its borders however there are key missing elements to bring about an impact, Human Capital, Knowledge base and Capital Inflow. My focus is on the two former elements. Furthermore, various countries are on the top of innovating nations and the UAE must start following their steps. Unlike those countries such as Israel which has been a successful model, the UAE already have exposure to top VC funds and managers. I have worked at the UAE SWF and been investing in funds since.
I would like to research this idea in a more methodical way and shape it into a product to present to key stakeholders. I am not proposing launching a VC or an incubator, that is to be discovered through this work.
Following on my preexisting relationships in VC and government, there is a great interest from both sides to explore this project given the current resources and the UAE's aspiration to become a leading regional innovation hub.
