Background & Objectives

 We have been approached by a leading home retail based in Milton Keynes. They are looking for a Strategic Development Manager to provide comprehensive, relevant and challenging commercial and financial analytical support to the company’s strategic development team and act as an integral part of the team to conduct new business review and analysis.Responsibilities will be drawn from the following areas:1. To provide commercial and financial support at a strategic level as well as review and analyse potential new business opportunities in the form of organic developments, acquisitions or other forms of partnership. 2. To provide commercial and financial support to internal projects / initiatives within the operating companies to deliver performance improvements.3. Deliver the above through robust commercial analysis, financial modelling, business cases and other ad hoc analysis as appropriate.  4. To deliver articulate conclusions orally as well as through written notes and presentations.5. To provide a link between the strategic development team and the relevant sections of the operating companies to ensure the appropriate use of key business metrics, financial statistics, etc.

Key deliverables

Of graduate calibre, the jobholder will have demonstrable experience of delivering results either in strategy consulting or in a strategy/business development role within a retail or FMCG environment.Highly numerate, with proven ability to manipulate and analyse data to resolve commercial issues.A qualified accountant is preferred.Able to communicate complex issues to the businesses management teams and influence their thinking with regard to key business development decisions. The candidate needs to be able to identify and understand strategic issues within the relevant retail markets, quickly synthesise information and present recommendations in a cohesive structured way. The jobholder needs to be a self-starter with good skills in time and priority management. With strong project management skills, able to plan and co-ordinate multi functional projects the job holder will have a proven record of meeting tight and challenging deadlines.Must be a team player, as this role is part of a small effective team that needs to work as a unit.  Flexibility of working hours is also a must.  The requirements of the job are such that late working / long hours might be required at short notice.Preferably with at least 3 years of experience in Mckinsey, Bain or BCG
