Objectives and Key Deliverables

We are a medical device manufacturer looking to increase efficiency in the packaging and distribution of our products. Currently they are brought into a Tokyo warehouse, distributed to the Fukushima Prefecture, packaged and then returned to Tokyo. We are looking to relocate the packaging part to Tokyo and integrate it all in one warehouse.

Key Responsibilities include:

- Support the finalization and validation of to-be distribution network design by the global distribution team – including validating key factor(s) driving feasibility of to-be design, e.g., assess and validate warehouse space needed at the 3PL locations, identify key success factors and risks and develop mitigation plan etc.
- Develop, manage and implement detailed relocation plan to ensure timely completion of the project and full alignment with global team on key financial and operational results. Detailed responsibilities include but not limited to:
-Develop detailed project work plan (who, where, what, when) in order to achieve the overall timeline and financial (cost savings) results listed out by global team
-Identify and manage pre-requisites , interdependencies and critical path activities that ensure a timeline completion of the project
-Establish day to day project team tasks, routine and project management routines
Provide content level guidance and support to the project team members and key stakeholders
-Mitigate day to day risks, resolve problems and escalate key issues in order to maintain a fact pace to achieve required results
-Ensure proper inventory build up is effectively estimated, prepared and executed without hurting order fill rate while minimizing actual inventory on hand and maximizing turns
-Provide coaching and guidance to project team members
-Engage key stakeholders and functional team leads to coordinate and support various inputs and alignment needed for project success
-Collaborate, align and work with overall program leadership, including related global functional leads to achieve timely achievement of planned project results
-Participate and play a key role in routine and ad-hoc program management reporting activities, including routine calls, project management reporting, leadership reviews etc., to ensure issues are escalated and resolved in a timely manner, financial and operational results are optimized and expedited wherever possible
-Manage and coordinate with 3PL provider to ensure required processes, procedures, cost savings are fully embraced and implemented in 3PL’s operations.
-Apply Lean concept to to-be warehouse layout, flow, processes and management disciplines to ensure operational performance (eg order fill rate) is fulfilled with minimal costs and infrastructure
-Collaborate with other related functional areas, including supply chain planning, sales and marketing, manufacturing etc. to ensure smooth transition into to-be operating model

Essential requirements:

-Bilingual in Japanese and English
-Minimum 5 years of successful hands-on experience in managing and leading distribution and warehouse improvement projects in Japan (and Asia plus)
-Past experiences in the following areas including: warehouse relocation, inventory buildup and transfer, warehouse management system migration and transfer, warehouse kitting/relabelling/repacking processes, basic warehouse processes aka pick pack put away etc.
-Strong ability to lead and manage a small team to execute against well defined work plan, manage day to day tasks, anticipate and mitigate risks, and escalate critical issues to upper management.

Preferencial qualifications:

-Medical device experience, familiarity with imported medial device product flow
-Experience in applying Lean concepts to warehouse to optimize flow, layout and improve pick rate while reducing costs
-Experience working with or managing 3PL
-Able to work effectively with senior management team and warehouse staff alike
-Familiar with related supply chain subject areas including sales and operations planning, inventory planning and control, ERP etc.
-Past experience working in consulting, and or as part of a large scope implementation program so to understand interdependencies and general program management practices
