Objectives and Key Deliverables

We are a FTSE listed market leader in mobile satellite communications.

For over 25 years, we have led the development of enhanced satellite connectivity solutions for the aviation community through its pioneering technology. Our Aviation Business Unit (ABU) provides communication and navigation services for the cockpit as well as inflight connectivity services for the passenger cabin, for thousands of commercial, business, and government aircraft across the globe. Today, Aviation is one of the fastest growing, dynamic areas of the business.

Over the next few years, we will bring to market a suite of new applications and services to meet the exponential demand for passenger in-flight connectivity, as well as to the address the industry imperative to further improve aircraft safety communications.

The Senior Manager, Strategy and business Development, will manage the ABU strategic planning process, interacting with Aviation business unit leadership. He will also lead on scoping and executing a portfolio of global business development projects, to support the ABU’s overall growth ambitions.

• Manage the strategic planning process (incl. leadership off-sites), under leadership/direction of the Director, and involving the Aviation business unit leadership as well as subject matter experts
• Support the identification and qualification of potential strategic commercial projects in support of the ABU’s growth aspirations
• Manage day to day interaction with external consultancies, for outsourced strategy projects
• Rigorous assessment of business development opportunities based on research, business cases and interaction with teams across the Aviation business unit and the rest of the company
• Transition of the business cases to planning and implementation of selected initiatives, including leadership of the project, mobilisation of internal cross-functional teams towards execution
• Cross-functionally manage individuals and capabilities from across key departments to execute business development projects from initiation to completion
• Engage and negotiate with relevant external partners (including suppliers or distributors) on commercial propositions, framework agreements, MoUs, and technology/service partnerships
• Work collaboratively with regional market development leads to understand market context and potential commercial initiatives

• Educated to Master degree level
• Minimum 7 years’ progressive corporate or consulting experience (Engagement Manager/Case Team Leader level), culminating in minimum 3 years’ experience in strategy formulation and business development
• Proven ability and tenacity to develop commercial ideas from conception, through qualification, to implementation, including experience of coordinating parties
• Experienced in matrix-management of legal, finance, sales etc. and aptitude for cross-functional project delivery and constructive team working
• Experience in developing international commercial partnerships
• Strategy experience in a technically and commercially complex B2B environment; accustomed to long sales-cycles and highly detailed commercial frameworks
• Experienced and effective in face-to-face engagement and soft negotiation
• Preferably, professional or project experience in commercial aviation, airline technology services provision, and/or telecommunications
• Lucid and structured communicator
