Objectives and Key Deliverables

Project Background

Arts Alliance is a venture capital firm with a history of
both investing in and building companies.
We are currently in pre-launch development of an SME lending platform,
called Growth Street.  Growth Street aims
to provide revolving credit facilities to prime SMEs in the UK, funded by P2P
lending.  Please see the attached
document for further background details on Arts Alliance and on the Growth
Street proposition.

Arts Alliance has been investing in and lending to SMEs for
over 15 years, however our experience is limited to high growth, technology
enabled companies.  Therefore before
committing to a seed investment of Growth Street, we would first like to
strengthen our understanding of current SME lending practices by speaking to
experienced practitioners and advisers.

Our objective for this project is to spend a day in a question and answer style discussion with an
experienced consultant with a background in SME lending.  Our goal is to specifically understand the process
by which banks issue overdraft facilities to SMEs.  This session will cover questions around: the
typical information requested of management (historical and forecast
information), the internal data sources drawn on by credit officers (such as
third party credit scores), the process of setting facility limits and interest
rates, the typical covenants and security asked for given the sector, size and
growth rate of the business, and the typical patterns in how facilities are
draw down. The overall goal is to help assess and critique our current ideas, seek advice on sources of data or analysis, and stimulate our thinking in areas we haven’t considered.

Our objective is for the project to be composed of a one day discussion session held at Arts Alliance’s office (5 Young Street, London, W8 5EH) prior to 14 February.  We are open to holding this as two half day sessions if that is more convenient. The discussion will be held in an informal Q&A style.  We are not looking for any written outputs or presentations at this stage.
