M+D is organizing an innovation-themed conference on behalf of a prestigious international university. Scheduled for May, 2017 in New York, the event will feature prestigious international speakers and world-class innovators. Our agency is responsible for the entire production, including content development, operations and audience acquisition.

Job description

As part of this effort, we are looking for an experienced and sophisticated audience development manager to secure approximately 250 affluent and intellectually engaged attendees - who will be invited to attend free of charge if they meet certain professional criteria. This is a contract position lasting over the period of nine months that will require approximately 15 hours/week – to register a steady number of qualified attendees. In addition to experience in marketing and audience development for high-level conferences and intellectual events, this position requires an understanding of how to pull in complementary design and technical support from freelancers, to build a website, develop creative marketing materials, and build an active community on social media.

Key deliverables

Scope of work

• Design the overall audience acquisition strategy, including development of a target audience database
• Work with a designer to create the event website and then manage regular updates of program content, new speakers, logistical details, etc.
• Advise on acquisition of any potential list rentals that will help secure qualified attendees and manage the process
• Utilizing online design marketplaces, manage development of creative materials, such as invitations, digital media, and other promotional outreach – and update with select design software
• Lead ongoing outreach and follow-ups to select attendees and audiences with customized correspondence promoting the conference and its content
• Develop marketing partnerships with select organizations that can help cross-promote the conference to key attendees in return for invitations to the event
• Develop and manage social media to help promote the conference and engage with potential attendees
• Lead outreach to select reporters and media outlets to build buzz before and after the conference
• Manage post-event correspondence to ensure strong long-term relationship building
