We are seeking high-performing individual to join our firm for 6 months to help with an ongoing project.

JOB PURPOSE
The Functional Lead (Head) of Data Science is responsible for guiding and overseeing all data gathering, stewardship and analytics activities in the company and supporting growth of capability within each division; they are supported by the Technology team.

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES
1 As a member of the Senior Leadership team (SLT), assume responsibility dramatically increased & more effective use of data and data driven insights and decisions to improve the effectiveness of lines of business and support functions.
2 Provide leadership on the creation of strategic change plans using Data & Analytics to the benefit of client, promoting brand equity and achievement of competitive advantage and/or cost reduction and productivity improvement.
3 Represent client publicly in areas relating to data science and analytics, building perception-equity for client for its strength in Data & Analytics.
4 With regard to Client strategy
• Identify opportunities and so develop long range and annual strategies and business plans for increasing the role of data science in client’s business and operations
• Secure Client Management Team approval for the strategies and oversee & drive the execution of all agreed strategies relating to analytics including those assigned to other SLT members. Review and monitor performance on key parameters periodically and develop course correction plans as necessary.
5 With regard to Execution of Initiatives and Operation of solutions
• Lead all Divisions in establishing processes to support sustained agile delivery of agreed initiatives driving ongoing increased capability and outcomes.
• Manage centrally such human resources as data stewards and advanced analytics experts who may operate across different Divisions at different times, as well as central governance functions such as metadata, data dictionary and data integrity processes.
• Operate as the BI Centre of Excellence, including data governance / stewardship, leadership (with the Technology team) of tool selection and development, and growth of capability across Client organisation by example setting and coordination of training for the analytics community cross-company.
• Ensure a coherent set of Data Science initiatives through central coordination and through a Framework for prioritization, approval and resource allocation and through maintenance of target process and technology architectures including technology solutions.
• Personally sponsor and drive the delivery of selected Analytics capability building projects and selected Investigations / Insight / Decision projects using advanced analytics initiatives
• Lead and maintain relationships with industry partners relating to the use of analytics and leading-edge technology options & related business concepts (in concert with CTIO team and Procurement for potential solution vendors).
6 Transformation
• With P&O, support each management team member in Culture and Change Management initiatives both specifically in support of agreed Data Science initiatives and more generally in establishment of a dynamic data-driven-decisions operating model and culture.
7 The Functional lead (Head) of Data Science is to operate as the ‘leading light’ for the cross-functional, cross-Division community of analysts and data science technologists, and so provides overall guidance and motivation to all staff working on data & analytics initiatives across Client organisation. They are expected to demonstrate advanced applications and foster cross-company skills through collaboration and coordinating rotation across Divisions. They directly lead and line manage a team of 25-30 staff including a small number of contracts as required by the program of work.


THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
Formal Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field eg. Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science or Business.

Work Experience
- At least 15 years with a substantial and recent part of that in applying ‘Data Science’ and/or ‘Analytics’ techniques to business growth and leading a company culture change toward high levels of data usage. A substantial part of their career should be in Telecommunications or a related industry (including e-Commerce and/or Banking). They should demonstrate line-leadership experience and significant cross-functional virtual-team leadership experience.

• MIS and BI systems and corporate applications
• Data Science & Advanced Analytics
• Personal technical expertise in analytics environments and languages (eg. SAS, R, Python, SQL, Hadoop) and BI tools (eg. Qlik, Business Objects)
• Statistics
• Business use of IT technologies for decision making and process optimization
• Financial modelling of impacts of improved decision making
• Agile work practices (ideally in functions not involving software development)
• Intra-company networking and building consensus on change programs
• Good communication skills in English both written and oral.
• Personal traits: Positive, Passionate, Collaborative. A self-starter, able and motivated to both perform and lead under pressure in a challenging environment.
