Objectives and Key Deliverables

This successful, designer-owned and led, London-based, luxury womenswear business has built a strong reputation among a loyal client base of made to order customers and has added ready to wear collections available through its own retail website as well as by leading online womenswear retailers.

To fund growth it is raising an initial round of investment to provide cash flow, achieve economies of scale and allow appropriate levels of sales and marketing activity across multiple channels. Using the SEIS scheme is committing angel investors to 3 years, during which period the company aims to grow sufficiently to then attract corporate investment from the luxury sector.

With this growth comes the need for close financial control and introduction of efficient, resilient systems ensuring profitability, consistent quality of product and reliable delivery. The successful candidate will lead these functions, probably on a part-time basis but with a weekly presence in the company's London SW11 studio, working closely with the business owner and supported by existing book-keeping and accountancy services provided remotely. They will report to the business owner and will help report quarterly performance to investors.

The role is seen as a hands-on, part-time management function, rather than delivery of a strategy report or similar. It will cover key risks and optimise business performance in line with the aims of the owner and her investors, and will be part funded through that investment. We foresee the role going to someone with mid-level, but directly applicable sector experience, becoming involved for long enough to demonstrate proven growth, resilience and profitability through scaling up under their watch.

Specific luxury or fashion experience is key, in order to help navigate the particular challenges of running a profitable smaller sized label in the current market. We should stress that this company is not any kind of vanity project: it is run by an experienced fashion designer and produces a highly regarded product that attracts a loyal client base and has been copied by bigger, more established labels due to its success.
